Workshop Description:
"Emotions are not excess, they are us. Understand them as content, as life, not as a force to be conquered. Meet them with guard lowered and they reveal their lessons and offerings. Colonize them and they will haunt you until they are free." - Prentis Hemphill
When we think about emotions we often categorize them as either "positive" (good) or "negative" (bad). Emotions such as fear, anxiety, anger, stress, worry, and sadness often get clumped into the negative group and thus we tend to avoid them, or even worse, shame ourselves when we feel them. Emotions are a core part of being human, yet we spend so much time numbing, hiding or ignoring the ones we deem "negative" that we eventually begin to view them as the enemy. Self love means loving the WHOLE self, yet it can be difficult to love your whole self while viewing certain parts as an enemy.Â
One of the first steps towards healing and transformation is learning to bring compassion to the parts of yourself that often have been deemed as negative. Before you can fully love and bring compassion to those parts of yourself you must first be willing to listen and understand why they exist in the first place.
The intention of this workshop is to help foster a better relationship with yourself through cultivating a better understanding of your emotions. Together, through the lens of Nature Based Expressive Arts, we will explore the dualities of our emotions in relation to the five elements: earth, fire, water, air and ether and how these dualities are the building blocks to understanding the relationships between our different emotions. We will also work on reframing percieved "negative emotions" into useful tools to help us better understand our intuition, goals and life purpose.Â
I am so excited for you to take this step to building a better relationship with yourself within a safe, supportive and creative community. You are right where you need to be. I can't wait to go on this journey with you!
The Inspiration Behind This Workshop:
I used to have a very toxic relationship with my emotions. For years I struggled with intense anxiety, depression, anger and low self-esteem. In order to avoid feeling these emotions I used to numb them by turning to alcohol, which led to many other forms of toxic neglect and abuse on my mind, body and spirit. Eventually I not only lost control of my emotions but I lost control of myself and got caught in a hole of extreme self-loathing, defeat and betrayal.
Today things are A LOT different. As many already know I decided to eliminate alcohol from my life completely, which in itself has been extremely transformative and healing. Eliminating alcohol has allowed me to actually spend time understanding and bringing compassion to my emotions rather than numbing and avoiding them.
This journey has not always been easy, but it has been extremely transformative. I’ve cultivated a better relationship with myself, which has allowed me to live a happier and healthier life. I am excited to begin sharing some of the tools, resources and insights with others that have guided me along the way.
